About
I am Professor in Geographic Data Science at the Department of Geography and Planning of the University of Liverpool (UK); co-director of Imago the Smart Data Research UK Imagery Data Service; and Deputy Programme Director for Urban Analytics at The Alan Turing Institute, where I was also ESRC Fellow from 2020 to 2023. At Liverpool, I am a member of the Geographic Data Science Lab.
Until ca. 2023, I was active in the development team of the open source library PySAL
for spatial analysis in Python; and created contextily
, a small Python package to use web tile services in static maps. In 2023, together with Serge Rey and Levi Wolf, I published Geographic Data Science with Python, which you can check out for free online.
Since 2019, I co-edit “Environment and Planning B - Urban Analytics and City Science”. Since 2023, together with Rachel Franklin and Levi Wolf, we host the GLaD Podcast. You can read a bit more on my bio and reach me at D.Arribas-Bel [at] liverpool.ac.uk
